Thadranang Goemba
Bhutanese culture
Thadranang Goemba sits on a ridge above Thimphu at about 3,270 metres. The way up begins near Yangchenphu High School and climbs steeply along the ridge through blue-pine forest, a strenuous walk of about two hours.
The reward at the top is a quiet monastery with a peaceful setting and views over the valley. It is a good option for those who want a half-day hike close to the capital. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water, and expect to remove shoes at the temple door.
