Jyekundo or Yushu Town

Jyekundo, also known as Yushu, is the main town of Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in southern Qinghai, at around 3,700m on the high Tibetan plateau. It is a Khampa area and lies on the old trade routes between Qinghai, Sichuan and central Tibet.

The town was badly damaged by an earthquake in 2010 and has been largely rebuilt. Nearby sights include Gyanak Mani wall, said to be among the largest mani stone collections in the world, and the Trangu and Sakya monasteries in the surrounding valleys.

It is used as a base for exploring the Yushu area and the source regions of the Yangtze, Yellow and Mekong rivers.
