Gyume
Gyume Dratsang is the Lower Tantric College of Lhasa, found across from the Kerey Hotel. It was founded in the mid-15th century by Je Sherab Senge, a disciple of Tsongkhapa, and for a long time it was one of Tibet’s leading colleges for the study of tantra.
The present complex dates from a reconstruction in the 18th century. Like its sister college Gyuto, Gyume trained monks in ritual, chanting and the practice of the Gelug tantric tradition.
Visitors can see the assembly hall and the monastic quarters if open. It is a quiet stop for those who already know the main sights of Lhasa.
