Gesar Ling Lhakhang
Gesar Temple
The Gesar Ling lhakhang is a Chinese-style temple on the summit of Parma Ri in Lhasa. It was built in 1792 to 1793 on behalf of the Qianlong emperor, to commemorate the defeat of the Gorkhas.
The temple was dedicated to Guan Di, the Chinese god of war and justice, who for political reasons was identified with the Tibetan epic hero Gesar. This blend gives the temple its name.
It is a small shrine, reached by a short climb, and the hilltop gives views over Lhasa.
