Amo Chhu crocodile breeding centre

The Amo Chhu crocodile breeding centre is a small conservation facility in the warm southern foothills near Phuentsholing. It was established in 1976 and improved in 2003, with the aim of breeding crocodilians and increasing their numbers.

Visitors can walk around the enclosures and see the reptiles up close, usually in pools and basking areas. It is an easy, short stop and a change of pace from the temples and dzongs on most itineraries, especially for families.

The centre is close to the Amo Chhu river on the edge of town, in the subtropical climate that suits these animals. It fits well into an afternoon in Phuentsholing before or after the border crossing.
