Sang-ngag Zimche Nunnery
This active nunnery of about 50 nuns lies on the slopes of Mount Gangpori. It was originally a 14th century Sakyapa establishment of the Tsarpa sub-school, and from the mid-18th century it came under the Gelugpa tradition.
It sits close to the sacred mountain, which is one of the four holy hills of central Tibet, and the nuns follow a daily round of prayer and ritual.
Visitors should be quiet and respectful, as this is a working community rather than a sightseeing site.
