Litang

Litang is a high Tibetan town in western Sichuan at about 4,000m, one of the highest towns in the world. It is known as a Khampa stronghold, with a wide grassland setting and a large monastery on the hillside.

Litang Chode Monastery is the main sight. The town is also known for its horse festival, held in the summer, when Khampa riders gather in colourful dress.

Because of the altitude, visitors should allow time to acclimatise.
