Dumtseg Lhakhang
Dumtseg Lhakhang is a small and unusual temple in the Paro valley. It is built in the form of a chorten and is traditionally attributed to Thangtong Gyalpo, the Tibetan saint and bridge-builder who is said to have raised it to subdue a local demoness.
The building rises in three storeys, with a ground floor, middle level and upper level, each holding wall paintings and statues. The paintings are considered among the older surviving examples in the country. Visitors walk clockwise around the temple and are shown the chapels by the caretaker.
Because it is compact and close to the road, it is an easy stop that rewards a short, unhurried visit. Photography is not allowed inside.
