Alleppey
Alleppey (or Alappuzha) is a small town situated along the Backwaters, which once bore the nickname ‘Venice of the East’ because of its famed palm-fringed canal network, the intricate bywats and narrow streams that allow boats to transport huge bales of coconut fibers. Alleppey also facilitates a long stretch of beach that’s makes it very attractive. Above all, the famous Nehru Trophy Snake Boat Race, the most significant of snake boat Races is hosted here in Alleppey on the Vembanad lake, on second Saturday of August.
