About the festival
Wangdue Tshechu festival, held in Wangdue Phodrang in Bhutan during the atumn season, is a vibrant celebration steeped in tradition. Introduced by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal after the completion of the dzong, this three-day annual festival attracts attendees from Punakha and Thimphu, providing an opportunity for joyous festivities. The festival showcases mesmerizing mask and folk dances, including the Raksha Mangchum, or “dance of the Ox,” alongside the unveiling of the Guru Tshengye Thongdrel, a magnificent appliqué thangka portraying Padmasambhava surrounded by divine beings.rmy ground since the Dzong was destroyed by fire.
