Before you go
- Dress Respectfully Wear modest, comfortable clothing suitable for a religious event, as much of the festival takes place in the monastery courtyard. Avoid overly casual or revealing attire out of respect for local customs.
- Prepare for the Weather Bring a hat, sunscreen, and a light jacket, as mornings can be cool while afternoons may bring strong sun depending on the season.
- Mind Your Camera Etiquette Photography is generally allowed, but always ask permission before photographing monks up close, and refrain from using flash during sacred rituals.
- Arrive Early for a Good View Seating fills up quickly, so arrive well before the day's events begin to secure a clear vantage point of the courtyard and dance area.
- Carry Water and Snacks Refreshment stalls near the venue may be limited, so bring your own water bottle and light snacks to stay comfortable throughout the day.
- Respect Ritual Moments Remain quiet and attentive during blessings and the unveiling of the Thongdrel, and follow the lead of local pilgrims to know when applause or silence is appropriate.
