About the festival
Ngang Lhakhang, meaning “Swan Temple,” is located near Draphe village and holds deep historical importance. It was once the residence of the Choekhor Penlop, the regional governor who ruled the Bumthang valley prior to the 17th century.
The festival is a deeply spiritual, community-centered celebration, featuring sacred mask dances, traditional rituals, and ceremonial music performed to invoke blessings, bring prosperity, and honor Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava). Unlike larger tsechus, Nalakhar Tsechu maintains an intimate atmosphere, with villagers gathering in traditional attire to participate in age-old customs.
